Faurecia, one of the world’s leading automotive equipment suppliers, inaugurated today its new production operations in Bragança (Portugal), an extension of its emissions control technologies plant, which represents an investment of € 41.5 million and the creation of 400 new jobs until 2018.
The inaugural event took place in presence of the Portuguese Secretary of State for Industry, João Vasconcelos, the Mayor of Bragança, Hernâni Dias, Christophe Schmitt, Executive Vice-President of Faurecia Emissions Control Technologies and Luis Oliveira, CFO of Faurecia Portugal.
Start of production is scheduled for September 2016, for delivery to European automakers Jaguar Land Rover, Nissan and Renault. Annual total sales of this new plant are expected to reach € 499 million in 2018
“With this new long-term investment in Bragança, Faurecia further confirms its confidence in the Portuguese economy, both as an investment and production location. The experience gained by Faurecia in the region is instrumental to the ongoing success of our operations with our customers in France, Spain and the United Kingdom. I am proud to contribute to the revival of the Portuguese industrial and economic landscape, with a skilled and reliable workforce”, said Christophe Schmitt.
The new production area joins the already existing plant since 2001 in Bragança, with a production area of 10,000 square meters, where Faurecia will manufacture emissions control systems with the most advanced technologies, such as nitrogen oxides reduction systems (NOx) for diesel engines and hot-end exhaust lines. Industrial processes include canning, tube bending and forming, welding and assembly.
Faurecia, which currently employs 850 people in Bragança and reached 2015 total sales of € 400 million in 2015, is by far the largest employer and exporting company in the city, with almost 100% of the plant’s production exported to automaker car plants in Europe located in France, Spain and the United Kingdom.
In Portugal since 1951, Faurecia is a player key in the Portuguese automotive industry, employs over 4,000 people in the six existing plants (Bragança, Nelas, Palmela, Vouzela and two in São João da Madeira) that provide automakers in Portugal and abroad, generating total annual sales of more than € 967 million (2015) of which 90% represent exports.
Faurecia is one of the world's largest automotive equipment suppliers with four Business Groups: Automotive Seating, Emissions Control Technologies, Interior Systems and Automotive Exteriors. In 2015, the Group posted total sales of €20.7 billion. At December 31, 2015, Faurecia employed 103 000 people in 34 countries, at 330 sites and 30 R&D centers.
